SINGULAR Subjects - Jaws of justice!

The Soloist, Contributor

So, I am watching the evening news last Wednesday and the lead item is strangely enough not about Jamaican people killing each other, but about dogs that killed a damn thief. This person assumed to be of unsound mind, was a frequent thief in the areas close to where the dogs took justice into their own jaws.

Let that be a lesson to all others who are contemplating that act this season and all other times of the year. My only regret is that it could not be recorded and shown to all thieves at their moment of capture.

Let me make it clear that this column is not about whether the victim's cries were heard by workers nearby. This is in defence of hard working Jamaicans who are tired of having their lives violated and no one to turn to for protection. So, if a home owner turns to a bunch of bad killer dogs, I say good for him or her.

In sympathy

This is for readers who have in the past been robbed of all their earthly possessions; have come home to see their home ransacked; have had a pocket picked; have been held up at gun or knife point; have had precious fruits and vegetables reaped behind their backs and whose livestock have been stolen and slaughtered. understand the dilemma you face at the mercy of thieves.

In one of two of my experiences this year, a thief broke the burglar bars, went into my neighbour's daughter's bedroom and made off with her jewellery. On the other occasion, he strained the electronic gate and emptied the trees of all ackees and breadfruit. This brazen fellow has also been seen jumping over the fence when he thinks no one is looking. Does the police help? No. She had to install a security/alarm/panic button system.

Power to the dogs

More and more tax-paying citizens have to be arming themselves as best they can against those who seek to rob, rape and kill them. So, I say more power to the dogs. And if I could afford it, I would give those dogs a year's supply of their favourite designer food.

So, when the dust settles, what should we do with the thieves among us? If the police arrests them before mob rule kills them, put them in prison and teach them the value of a hard day's work. How about breakfast at 7 o'clock daily followed by cleaning drains, weeding sidewalks or verges, planting trees and food crops, patching potholes and repairing school buildings? Let them work till the sun goes down. After a modest evening meal, let them shower and get into a classroom by 9 p.m., where they will study for three hours. Wake them at 6 O'clock and start again. Let these parasites really pay their debt to society.
