NOTE-WORTHY

Land for food

I would like the minister of agriculture to become involved in the issue of the 'development corridor' between Kingston and Spanish Town being mentioned by the prime minister and the Urban Development Corporation.

Dr Christopher Tufton has been doing a great job addressing food security and the need to grow more. For future generations of Jamaicans, we need policies that protect agricultural land from being built over.

Prime, irrigated, flat land such as in Caymanas must not be taken out of agriculture, even if it is currently producing little. With an increasing population and an uncertain world, we should at least keep a place to grow our food.

Do it for justice

Most of the politicians who are against the death penalty probably have two or more security guards around them at all times. Ordinary citizens have absolutely no defence. As far as using lethal injection or electrocution, I have no problem if it can be instituted immediately. If not, hang them until everything needed is in place.

Most opponents of the death penalty are saying it will not help curb the crime rate. Then let's do it for justice; justice for the surviving family members that have to deal with the tragedy for the rest of their lives. Do not allow these cold-blooded murderers to go to jail and go on vacation.

Fearful of Crime

I am a true Jamaican who loves my country so much, but the crime is surely pushing me and my children away. I hope and pray that the Government will bring back capital punishment in whatever form and shape it may come.

We need to take charge of our beautiful island. Also, a lot of the crime is the cause of the corruption in the police force. That too needs to be rooted out. God bless, keep up the hard work.

Deterrent needed

The death penalty is a deterrent and is needed. Also, prisoners on trial for murder getting bail is crazy, longer sentences for gun crimes is mandatory.

I am living in the United States and would like to return. What can this country do to convince me to move my family back to the land I love?
