St Georges Sports Club again tightened the noose on a Digicel Premier League opponent again at Lynch Park, as Daniel Shaw 33rd minute free kick earned the Portland team a 1-0 victory over Waterhouse yesterday.

St Georges completely dominated the first half through repeated attacks from Shaw, Danian Reid, Barrington James and Denroy Dennis, but the Waterhouse defence, led by Rohan Amos and Oniel Thomas, stood firm and resisted the many challenges for the most part.

However, the offensive pressure paid off in the 33rd minute when a St Georges player was brought down just outside the area, resulting in a free kick. Reid tapped the ball to Shaw 20 yards out and his powerhouse shot was neatly placed to the left of Richard McCallum in the Waterhouse goal.

Totally different

When the second half started, Waterhouse looked a totally different team as Earle, Lance Dacosta, Kirk Ramsey, Kevin Lamey and substitute Jonathan Williams had things their own way for the better part of 35 minutes.

The only thing that stood between Waterhouse scoring on numerous occasions was goalkeeper Ralston Robinson, who kept his heart out, with no fewer than 10 outstanding saves, which set the massive crowd on fire.

"We completely dominated the first half," said. Geoffrey Maxwell, St Georges' coach. "We have been practicing free kicks all week and it has paid off today. Yes we have a young team, but those guys are full of energy and are determined to win."

Waterhouse's coach, Hugh 'Bingy' Blair, said: "We did everything right except to find the back of the net. Waterhouse will now have to get back to winning ways by scoring at every opportunity."
