Seventeen-year-old Chevaunne Sinclair, a student of Victor Dixon High School (formerly West Indies College High School), topped the school's achievement in the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate with 11 subjects.

Chevaunne, the son of Joidy and Barrington Sinclair, employees of the West Indies Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and Northern Caribbean University (NCU), respectively, was sitting external exams for the first time.

"We recognised that he was a very gifted child from an early age," said his mother. "He was very good at reading from he was two and I am somewhat not surprised because of that. I was so elated when he told me the good news."

Chevaunne's brilliance has earned him a partial scholarship to do biological sciences at NCU and he hopes to move on and become a medical doctor.

"I give all the glory and praise to God who gave me the ability to reach this academic milestone," he said.

Seven distinctions

Chevaunne excelled with seven distinctions and four credits in biology, chemistry, mathematics, English language, English literature, Spanish, information technology, food and nutrition, physics, principles of business and human and social biology.

Not only is Chevaunne a 'bookworm,' with his many academic achievements from preparatory school up, but he is also very involved in the activities of his school. He represented the school in the Jamaica Cultural Develop-ment Commission Festival of the Arts on several occasions. He was part of the group Cherubs and sang on several occasions at the Feast of Lights held annually at NCU. He was also a member of the Spanish Chorale and participated in various drama activities staged by the school. His hobbies are reading, socialising, travelling, skateboarding and swimming.

He is grateful and appreciative for the invaluable support of his parents. He is also grateful to all his teachers, mentors and friends who helped him to achieve academically.

Before attending Victor Dixon High, he attended the Harrison Memorial Preparatory school in Montego Bay, Jamaica, and the West Indies College Preparatory school in Mandeville, Jamaica.
