Your home is looking dull. It lacks interest and you are tired of it. You would love to have it looking outstanding, fresh and appealing. You can, with 10 simple steps.

These steps are not only simple but also inexpensive and fun to do on your own. The result will transform the look of your home and increase its value substantially.

1 Re-pave your driveway: This is one way of bringing about a new look to your home. After all, it is the first thing that your guests and passers-by will notice. The many years of wear and tear can be gone in just a few hours.

2 Create curb appeal: All this needs is some time, rolled up sleeve and sweat. Cut and trim those trees and shrubbery, overgrown shrubbery gives the place an old, tired look and blocks the architectural detail of the house, not to mention the windows. Keep your lawn nicely cut. It will be appealing to the eyes, and the walkways should be well swept. Create focal points in the front of your yard with pretty gardens surrounded by colourful walkways. Place in areas of interest quaint birdbath, feeders and water fountains.

3 Transform with paint: There is no doubt that a fresh coat of paint can make everything clean and new again. It will transform the look of your house and provide other long-lasting benefits. Paint can brighten up an older house. It is the cheapest way to increase its value. For most persons, this is their biggest investment. If you can't afford to do the entire exterior, a fresh coat on the front door can also make a difference. Paint the trims and pay special attention to the door handle. A new one would definitely make a difference. And don't underestimate the effects of a new welcome mat.

4 De-clutter: A house that is cluttered gives the impression of neglect and undermines the value. De-clutter is free of cost and will make your rooms instantly spacious. Go through each room and you will see that one-third of the furniture and other items you cling to can be tossed out. Oops! Or placed in storage. Your rooms will appear larger and lighter after you are done.

5 Update: Kitchen and bathrooms go neglected over time and this should not be. The kitchen is the heart beat of your home and should be updated to increase the value. Replace or repair old cupboards. Install new, attractive handles. They can tie the room together with their colours and finishes, create noticeable changes to your kitchen. Bathrooms should be fresh, elegant and romantic. Maintaining that look means constantly replacing fresh soaps, flowers and designer bath items.

These five simple steps will easily add to the appeal of your home, as well as increase its value.
