NEW champions will be crowned in the regional one-day competition this year.

Trinidad andTobago completed a three-wicket victory over last year's champions Jamaica in the first semi-final of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB )Cup one-day competition last night at the Guyana National Stadium.

T&T advance to tomorrow's final where they will face the winners of today's second semi-final between Leeward Islands and Barbados.

Scores: Jamaica 197 for eight off 50 overs; Trinidad and Tobago 200 for seven off 47 overs.

Allrounder Keiron Pollard was the star for Trinidad and Tobago. He first took three for 38 before returning to hit an attacking 76 to pilot his country to victory. Darren Bravo also made a solid 41. David Bernard Jnr was Jamaica's leading bowler with two for 19. Earlier captain Tamar Lambert hit seven boundaries in the top score of 55 from 68 balls, as Jamaica, choosing to bat, reached 197 for eight in the day/night fixture.

Lambert added 55 for the fifth wicket with Lorenzo Ingram to stabilise his side's innings, when it appeared to be at the crossroads on 94 for four. Jamaica started nervously on a typically hard, docile Guyana National Stadium pitch, and it was evidenced when opener Horace Miller was run out for four.

Dave Bernard made 31 and Brenton Parchment got 23 to give the innings the early momentum, but T&T disciplined, if not menacing bowling undermined the Jamaican batting.
