Aris, holder of the Order of Distinction in the rank of Command Class, and his entire executive, was elected unopposed at the JAAA's annual general meeting held at the Rex Nettleford Hall at the University of the West Indies, Mona, on Tuesday.

Best-ever showing

Under Aris' leadership, Jamaica enjoyed its best-ever showing at the Olympics, winning 11 medals, which included six gold and three world records, at this year's Beijing Games.

Grace Jackson, a member of the IAAF Women's Committee, will serve as Aris' first vice-president.

The members of the executive are Aris (president), Jackson (first vice-president), Dr Warren Blake (second vice-resident), Vilma Charlton (third vice-president), Dr Winston Dawes (fourth vice-president), Garth Gayle (secretary), Marie Tavares (assistant secretary), Ludlow Watts (treasurer) and Charlie Fuller (director of the Bureau of Records).

The executive members are Maxine Brown, Bertland Cameron, Trevor Campbell, Judith Ewart, Alfred Francis, Gregory Hamilton, Edward Hector and Donald Quarrie.

Meanwhile, the new multimillion-dollar JAAA headquarters will open its doors soon.

The state-of-the-art JAAA facility, which is set to cost about $41.8 million, is situated at 6 Tremaine Road, just above the National Stadium.

Hamilton, an executive member of the JAAA with responsibility for the project, said: "We are substantially completed now and we are expected to finish by year end."
