Using a familiar phrase from advertising 'Just Do It'. For way too long criminals have been allowed a free reign in Jamaica and it is time to do something because things are not the way they used to be. Eighteen years of looseness and lawlessness for which we are now paying the price.
Sexual assault has taken a new turn, not only women are being raped, but children are now prime targets and our boys are not spared. A very clear message must be sent to these offenders, and I might add, murderers.
We will no longer sit as if in 'Wonderland' but with strong resolve arise and renew our commitment to nation-building, and a part of that entails the deliverance of justice. Justice must not only be done but must appear to be done. Therefore, I ask, where is the justice when a child or adult is murdered and the murderer is caught and instead of being punished swiftly he is given a holiday at the expense of taxpayers and the public purse?
Under siege
Imprisonment or a life sentence is a waste of time in Jamaica, yes! I just said it. The only persons who seem not to realise this are those whom we set in the positions of leadership.
We are under siege and the only thing left to do is to respond and not with cowar-dice but with bravery. For years, we have allowed our-selves to be caught between facts and fiction, now it is time to know the difference.
The United States of America is one of the leaders in the execution of convicted felons in the world, why not follow their example since everything we do seems to follow their trends?
Low murder rate in cuba
In China, corruption on all levels is dealt with firmly and decisively, why not take a leaf out of their book? As close to us as Cuba is to this bloody nation the murder rate is very low almost non-existent why not follow that example?
It is my sincere conviction that all who are convicted of very serious crimes such as abduction, rape, buggery, illegal possession of a firearm or ammunition, attempted murder and murder should be executed.
Note, I did not say (capital murder) because this is one of our biggest mistakes. Tell me which murder is (common) no pun intended.
Whether it be by the noose of the hangman, the electric chair, lethal injection, a room with poisonous gas or a firing squad, when a person is dead he/she is dead, it does not matter how he/she died, the point is the wish of the people is carried out.
No one challenging the US
If there is a problem with hanging, use another method and get on with it. I do not hear anyone challenging the mighty United States about their judicial killings as numerous as they are, and I am certain that the US has many human rights organisations and, second, if they even talk, what does it change.
The United Nations spoke when the US was about to go into Iraq. Let them talk, it is their freedom of speech, but do what must be done to secure the country, our country, our future and our young.
