SINCE IT is obvious that the people of Montego Bay are not of high importance to the Govern-ment, I am asking Prime Minister Bruce Golding and ministers Mike Henry, Ed Bartlett and Clive Mullings to address the issue of traffic on the Bogue Road to facilitate the tourists who visit the Second City.

Nail-biting experience

It does not seem to matter that the thousands of people who have to use the Bogue Road on a daily basis, when commuting to and from work and school, often spend up to three hours at times to travel a distance of less than five miles. Nor does it matter that a good amount of these persons are children trying to get to school on time or trying to get home.

Oftentimes, it can be a nail-biting experience as impatient and undisciplined motorists will create several lanes going in one direction and cut across unsuspecting motorists. It truly requires defensive driving.

Drawback for tourists

I am asking Mr Golding and the ministers to consider the tourists who are often caught in this traffic nightmare, as there is no alternative route to use when travelling to the airport from the South Coast, Negril and Lucea. Not to mention the revenues lost by some of the attractions in these areas as tourists avoid traversing this roadway, when possible, to avoid getting caught in hours of traffic.

The handful of cops who occasionally direct traffic in the evenings is likened to placing a Band-Aid on an open wound that is gushing blood.
