Duhaney Park are heavily favoured to cruise into the next round of the KSAFA Jackie Bell knockout competition, when they face their most modest opposition since the start of the competition, Maxfield Park, at the Maverley field today at 3p.m.
Having already blasted their way past fellow Super League competitors, Cavalier, last week and Rockfort in their first game, Duhaney Park could not expect to be under serious threat from a team placed two divisions below them.
Stay focused
However, as they say, the ball is round, and Duhaney Park manager Conrod Morrison, despite his team starting overwhelming favourites, is bearing that in mind.
"This is a KSAFA knockout competition. You can't take any team for granted and you can't afford any mistakes. We will just be looking to go out there today and play some good, attacking football," said Morrison. "We are feeling a bit more confident already, having won our first two games. We don't know much about our opposition today, but we are looking to go there and stay focused. Once we do that, I see us coming out on top."
Maxfield Park president, Elvis Jenkins, despite his team's current position, does not believe they will lack confidence headed into today's fixture.
"We don't see ourselves as underdogs. We have beaten Super League teams before and we see the current crop of players that we have at that level, we are feeling confident," he said. "Our outlook will always be a positive one, the team has never reached this far in the competition and we are looking to go even further, we take ourselves very seriously."
In their first two games, Maxfield Park beat the Island Special Constabulary Force 5-1, before knocking off Liguanea United 1-0 at the Jamaica College field.
In today's other games, former top flight representative Constant Spring will also start heavy favourites over Molynes United when the teams meet at the Constant Spring Complex.
The UWI will hope to keep up a solid performance in the competition so far when they host Brown's Town at the UWI Bowl, while Bull Bay host Rae Town at Bull Pen.
